Bullying/Gossip

The thing that bothers me the most is bullying, when people gossip about one another behind each others backs. Trying to make that one person feel so uncomfortable that their not welcome to be at school. The person being bullied is usually quiet, shy, insecure or could be an instigator due to needing attention. The bullies may bully a sibling at home and feel the need to continue aggravating or just may be frustrated and feels a need to vent on someone. Problems at home are a good possibility as to why kids at school act the way they do. The one being bullied needs to speak up and cut off this unecessary action towards them. Especially if they don't deserve it.They start feeling emotionally abused by their classmates and it can turn physical. Students all around the world go through similar situations like this, their scared to walk around alone and even go to school with out thinking their going to get beaten up. They ask themselves if its ever going to stop or is it just going to escalate to a bigger problem. No one should ever be in  a position were their to scared to even show their face around. People should start thinking twice of the things they do to others, things can go terribly wrong.... and that could end up being death. People pull suicide because they want the pain to go way,  their humiliated, ashamed of who they are, they start feeling like no one cares about them, they have no one to talk to with out feeling like their getting ignored. The things they go through they cant handle it. The tears rolling down that persons face, cutting everyone away, just to stop all this tragic for that one person,  to make it all end. the pain will end for him or her, but what about their loved ones? what about the split second moment when their parents or siblings walk into their room reminding him or her that dinner is ready, but instead they see their dead child in front of their eyes. the pain he or she had…. will now have moved onto his or her parents. their world will become so dark, they will blame themselves every single day. All because that one person got bullied by plenty and they didn't know when to stop. People out here really need to start thinking before they start pointing  fingers at someone. Its time to step up and show some "Respect" towards one another, be the bigger person!!!!!! live the life the way you want to live it, but don't put people down because you got it bad.

taking there time in the hall

You know whats annoy me. When people take there time walking in the hallway when there is hundreds of kids behind them trying to get by. It bothers me because when i'm attempting to try and make it to my class on time, theres some people that just stop in the middle of the hallway to talk to a friend or they're taking there time walking with there "swag" on. It mostly takes place here in our school maples where in between classes everyone is trying to get to class not late with the halls usually packed. I've never told anyone to move faster cause its just rude and its not there fault cause they probably dont see all thoughs people behind them but this isnt a nursing home and they should know they arent the only kids that go to school here, there is lots of kids here trying to get to class too not late.

When People Don't Say Certain Things...

Last week, my sister asked if she can borrow my laptop do some school work, as well as check her Facebook, of course. Being a nice older brother I am, I let her use it. After two hours, she was getting ready to go to bed, so she came inside my room and returned my laptop. After she gave it to me, she turned around and left without uttering a single "thanks' or "thank you". I wasn't asking for an "OMG! Thank you for letting me borrow your laptop, my super awesome brother!" But saying anything to show your gratitude would be nice. Annoyed, I feigned a very loud cough and yelled "You're welcome!" after her. That's when she finally remembered her manners and said "thanks."

My sister isn't the only one who doesn't have/ forgets to show common courtesy. People nowadays are way too pre-occupied that they forget to express this display of politeness. Just the other day, I saw someone bump into a guy who was carrying a bunch of books. The poor guy dropped most if his books, while the guy who bumped into him just watched him pick all of them without apologizing. I remember feeling annoyed at that person. The first reason for me to feel annoyed would be because the person who bumped him didn’t say sorry. The second reason is for not helping the guy pick up his books. If that were to happen to me, I would have sarcastically said "thanks for helping me" with a very icy tone.

How hard is it to say one or two words to show appreciation or to express your apology? Maybe if someone made an exaggerated expression of gratitude, then maybe they will be able to pick up on what they're missing. By doing this, they might remember to show common courtesy by uttering a single thanks or sorry. Not only is this polite, but saying so may brighten someone else's day, or help improve the situation if you have done something wrong.

Those two words aren't just words; they mean a lot to some people. Our society today needs to re-learn common courtesy that generations and generations of human kind has developed. We humans are slowly becoming less civilized; we are practically going back to the Stone Ages in terms of manners. You don't necessarily need common courtesy in order to survive, but they are something you should know and practice. By doing so, you will make the world a better place. Not only showing common courtesy makes you a better person, it will also make you more likable.

Teenage Gangsters

It is very annoying when people act like they are “gangster” this mostly happens in high schools. They call themselves gangsters, I call them gangster wannabes. I will share with you my encounters with these people.
One day I was sitting in my math class doing my work, when one of "them" walks in late with a can of monster, energy drink. it’s not really hard to tell that he went to shell. His pants were falling down and his t shirt was down to his knees, but not only that he had to disrupt the whole class.

The next time I saw one of these wannabe’s was by the shell doors in a big group, and blocking my way to the stairs, so I just went through them. They started looking at me like I was the one doing something wrong.

Over all I think these people should start acting like normal teenagers and maybe attending class, and come on time.

Why suddenly a person out of nowhere stops?

My peeve is about a person who hang out with his/her friends in the middle of the hallway.
My friend and I were walking in the hallway one day last year when suddenly a guy out of nowhere stops. The hallway was so crowded; there wasn't enough space for the people who just going to hang out. He just kept on talking to his friend and another guy comes and said "Hey dude! Would you mind moving because you're blocking the way?" The guy who stopped at the hallway says "Oops! Yes, I wouldn’t mind, sorry." However, he didn't do anything and the guy keeps on talking until another guy said "Hey, don't stop in the middle of the hallway! Come on. Dude, MOVE!" He then replies "Fine! Dude, calm down" and smiles. Finally, the guy moved already; the hallway is still crowded because of many people who's hanging out. The guy was mad because he was going to be late for his next class. I’m still annoyed about that even now because it caused traffic.
People block the hallway because sometimes their friends will suddenly call them to ask a question or something. This is one of the reasons why students arrive late to class. I'm not the only one who's aware of this problem; other students are too.
I've never encountered a situation like this, but if it were to happen to me, I will tell that person directly to not block the hallway' move to an open area, and hang out somewhere else instead.

To avoid this kind of situation, the school should expand the hallways so that more students can occupy the space. We can accomplish this plan, if every student of maples that will going to hang out is going to moved into another place where is big and comfortable instead of tiny hallways which is hot and uncomfortable.

Hypocrisy, and why I dislike it

Hypocrites are a big pet peeve of mine. A hypocrite is a person who engages in the same behaviors he condemns others for. Hypocrites bother me, because they always have someone else to blame, it's like they have no self-discipline. Doing something hypocritical also makes you look extremely self-centered, like "The problem is not with me, the problem is with everyone else". Say someone gets cut off in traffic and they get really mad, but later they cut someone off and don't acknowledge it at all. That is the kind of stuff that makes me angry. If someone does something to you that you don't like, it doesn't entitle you to retaliate. Tell them to stop, or just ignore them, don't poke them back, because you'll start an argument or fight and you will look like the enemy. Just... DON'T DO IT MAN.

I recall one time I was playing video games with some friends of mine. Everyone was having fun until one of my friends goes "OH MY GOD I HATE THE GRENADE LAUNCHER, NO SKILL!" but before he even finished the sentence he started using the grenade launcher himself. So I say "Doesn't that mean you have no skill?" to which he just yells "NO!" followed by a moment of silence "It's.. just... when other people use it against me!". I nearly spoke up, but I held myself back. I wanted to tell him how dumb he sounded. If something is bothering you and causing you to not have fun you shouldn't retaliate by making all of the other people not have fun, they weren't even bothering you, and guess what... YOU LOOK LIKE THE ENEMY!

Does it make sense now? In the off-chance you said no, here's another example. I was in the car with my mom. We were driving somewhere, probably like Wal-mart or something boring. We were driving when out of nowhere this car pulls in front of us and cut her off, causing her to quite angry. So later after she had cooled off and we were on our way back from wherever we went, she went ahead and did the same thing to someone else. We pulled ahead of another car and then just cut right in front of it, and she says "Sorry" in a very unapologetic voice to herself, so I decide to chime in "You know, you are your own worst enemy". "I know" she says back to me. If you get so angry at something that you also do, you are either A) Not allowed to get angry, B) You have to actually feel regret for what you have just done, or C) you're a hypocrite.

Now that you sort of understand hypocrisy, you probably know that you have done it at least once too, my favorite singer states it best when she says "nobody's perfect". Even I'm a huge hypocrite, which makes this whole essay extremely ironic, because it is a big hypocrite complaining about when people are hypocrites. So the next time you're thinking about being a hypocrite, remember this and remember my words, because if you don't you will be the enemy and I will dislike you... and you don't want that, right?

THE END.

Blah,Blah,Blah

I will talk about one of my pet peeves, and one of them are a person who's is always talking. Talking is not bad, but if you always talk like there's no tomorrow that's irritates me.

I remember one time in our apartment, my aunt and my parents were chatting for a long time, it took 3 hours before they stop talking and that time I was in the living room where my aunt and my parent were talking each other. In our apartment there's only 2 bedroom, one is for my sister and the other one needs to be renovated. I had no choice but to sleep in the living room but my family members are there and still chatting and it really bothers me.

Back in the Philippines, when I was in grade 10. I remember one of my classmate talking so much and i told him to stop talking. He's my neighbor and he's always talk even when the teacher is discussing. one time my English teacher asked us to stand behind the doors. She did that because she saw my classmate talking to me even though I'm listening to my teacher and my teacher thought that we were chatting. I was so embarrassed and I told him to stop talking to me.

Some people talk even if it is not sensible because they don't want to be bored. Talking too much is not so bad but if you put into a appropriate place you can use it to gain knowledge.

just stop.. in the name of safety!

Is it really that hard just to stop your vehicle and press the breaks and wait at the crosswalk for a maximum 2-1 minutes? no it's not you idiot. You almost ran over me and my mother wouldn't of been that happy with you. I'm pretty sure i got the right of way before you kept on proceeding.
Serious injuries have occurred because of this constant incident, many drivers in the city are too lazy just to stop there vehicle and careless just to move there head just a tiny bit just to see if anyones around or maybe there just to occupied by being on the phone or something, i don't know. They would like to just make it from point a- to point b as fast as they can. There was a incident last year where after school a driver hit a girl crossing the street and the driver probably never seen her, like wth bro?! the girl was injured and i don't really know the rest that happened. But seriously, from what i was told, the girl was just minding her own business thinking she had the cross walk then a car hit her and she landed under the vehicle. Like uhm? what were you thinking or what were you doing not looking to see whats surrounding you?
I havent directly said this to anyone because i'm pretty sure it wouldn't matter, and it is probably a habit for the driver to rush pass the crosswalk. They should read the drivers handbook, so they are aware of it.
It has become a habit to some people where they just don't care if someones walking, if there far enough away from the ride, they'll still proceed to go.

Bad Case of Body Odour.

There are many things that I can and cannot stand. One of the cannots on my list would have to the body odour. Especially when the smell is so horrible, that it urges you away from the source.

I had a bad encounter with this problem just last month. I was walking down the school hallway, when all of a sudded a group of students cut me off. I was a little ticked at firsst because of the fact that they were walking at the speen of an 80 year old men. Then the lurking smell appeared suddenly before my face and there was no escaping. I had to bear with it because of the fact that there was no way past them. I can understand if they had just came from gym and were sweaty and stinky. However, these students were actually in my gym class! And gym wasn't until next period. Uhm yeah, I have the same question. Why'd they stink?

The next gym class i had been met with the same horrible odour that my nose was still recovering rom yesterday. The same group was standing in the corner of the change room, preparing to leave, when i uttered "Oh man, this spray smells amazing!" Once of the guys asked me if he could use some, and i replied, "Have it." I think that a $5 spray was one of the best investments I've ever mad. So in the end, I think i solved the problem indirectly and no one's feelings got hurt!

Some people may not understand just how badly they smell. That is why I take a more kind approach into addressing the situation just because I think it's rude if i say "You stink bro." That's not the person I am.

A factor of the body odour is just human nature. We all stink at some point in our life. However, that's nothing a good showering and if you don't well then buy some deodorant or body spray to cover it. Spraying cheap dollarstore cologne will only make it worse. Trust me. Thanks!

People Who Text While You're Talking

There's lots of different things that people do that irritate us but what bugs me the most is when people text while talking to people. Manners please! Didn't your parents teach you those.

One time when my boyfriend and I were in the middle of a conversation, when suddenly someone texted him and he replied back, instead of talking to me .im like "okay whatever,I'm outta here". I was really mad when he came up to me and asked " what's wrong with that? What is the problem ?" and I said " a hmm, I'm talking to you right? And youre not listening to me because you keep on texting." that was rude, it felt like he didn't care or he doesn't want to listen to what I was saying. Of course that was an issue, so we got into a fight. I said " okay! I don't care if it is another drama between us, just go fix your effin attitude then come back!" he replied " okay fine like you never do the same thing I did". " yeah I really don't because I'm not a jerk like you!"I restored. He then walks out.

I love my cellphone, it's practical and fun . But when phone makes us act like jerks or changes our behaviour , we should avoid being over addicted to them. If we didn't stop, texting while talking it may lead us to fight again, which is not good. So be more considerate, think of others and be less self-centred. In this world , you are not the only one who lives here, billions of others do too! Some of us really need to text back because it's their only way to communicate or let others know something in private . I respect people using phones, so the least others can do is to respect the people around them by listening to them first and text back after you are done talking to them.

The Road is Not Yours!

I love to drive, ever since I passed my Driver’s Road Test and received my Intermediate Driver’s License. I love to drive to school and do not have to walk in the freezing cold and do not have to for buses outside. Most of all I love the fact that I do not have to be dependent on my parents or anyone else to pick me up or drop me off to my destination. As much as I love the ad vantages of driving, there are some disadvantages such as reckless, arrogant drivers who seem to believe that the public roads are built for them. They believe that the driving rules do not apply to them and they can stop, turn, and park wherever they desire. Also they believe that the speed limit signs are not for them. These types of bad drivers tend to on my nerve from time to time.
I had an encounter with a bad driver just yesterday. I was on my way to pick up my sister from her University. A driver ahead of me was driving at the speed of 50kh/hr when the posted speed was 70km/hr. It was on the highway during rush-hour, therefore I could not pass the person and get on my way to the University. It really bugged me being stuck behind this slow driver in rush-hour when I am trying to get to my destination on time. As much as I wanted to address this person and ask “Why are you driving 20km/hr less than the posted speed”, I could not address this person because we were in two different vehicles and both vehicles were moving. Not being able to address this bad driver also bugged me a lot. When I finally saw a opening into the other lane and switched, the slow- driver also switched into the same lane and did not signal before changing lanes. At this time I had enough of the slow driver so I changed my lane again and finally got this driver.
Another bad driving habit I have seen is when people change lanes or turn without giving a signal to the direction they want to go. It really annoys me when people can’t take the common courtesy to flick a little switch to acknowledge everyone else on the road that they are about to move their vehicle in a certain direction. It is dangerous for the driver and other people on the road, especially when they are driving on the highway.
Also it annoys me when people drive with a lead-foot. My dad is one of them, he quickly accelerates and brakes hard every time he drives. I never understood why he drives in that way, what is he in such a rush for. I just do not see the point in accelerating quickly just to get to a red light and having to brake. If you are inside a car with my dad for at least 15 minutes, you are guaranteed to have a headache by the end.
To my understanding driving is a privilege and people tend to abuse their privilege to drive without any care. Bad Drivers believe that they can drive or park however and wherever they want. They like to make their own rules on the road and make bad decisions such as distracted driving. Bad driving habits not only annoy me but they are incredibly dangerous for the public and the bad drivers as well.

Don't Kill Me With Too Many Expectations!

Teenagers assume that parents these days expect way too much from them. It is irritating when they start comparing their kids to other kids. There are too many expectations which sometimes leads to "Rebellious Kids". Instead of accepting their child's interests in various things, they will start putting their decisions and opinions without even listening to the kids.

I remember once, actually its not once, it happens quite often. "Why are your grades not as high as I expected? Why can't you be like other kids? Why can't you be like your cousin, your best friend or some other person?" This list of questions goes on which really annoys and irritates me. "Well, I say, what if that's not something I'm best at? Instead, why don't you look for "positive interests" in me?" Sometimes I ignore the situation but when I really think I need to confront this, I do! I give them an example of something like: "What if I start saying the same things to you? No one is perfect, even you! What if I say, Oh! Why don't you dress like your friend? She/ he has a better sense of style." Then usually the answer to my question is "Why copy others and be someone who you're not?" Then , I tell them to apply their answers to the questions they ask me before they compare me with anyone else.

I think most parents behave this way because they're worried about their children making choices and they "might not" be aware of that, it really bugs us and everyone is not the same. Being stressed, worried and comparing will not lead to the results of their child performing the best in everything. In other words, you can't be perfect in everything. Parents should also accept their child's flaws and be proud of what they do accomplish!

Scratching of the Chalkboard

The chalkboard, the chalkboard is good for teachers to use for assignments and also good for just doodling. But I just cannot take it when someone starts scratching it for no reason or just to piss someone off.
I absolutely hate it when someone scratches the chalkboard. It makes my whole body have this weird and tingly feeling. When I see someone scratching the chalk board my fingers and nails start getting this weird feeling and it makes me want to cut them off. Hearing someone scratching the chalk board is just the worst. It makes me wish I had no ears so I wouldn’t have to hear anything like that ever again. Sometimes when I just even think of someone scratching the chalkboard without even someone doing it I get all those weird feelings.

I have had many encounters of people or 'friends' scratching the chalkboard just to piss me off because they know I hate it that much and they think it is fun. I don’t even understand how someone can scratch a chalkboard without feeling all those feelings I get when I see someone scratching the chalkboard. When someone is scratching the chalkboard I instantly confront them about it and I usually tell them that the chalkboard is supposed to be used only with chalk and not your finger nails!

My most recent encounter of seeing or hearing someone scratching the chalkboard was in my English class during school. It wasn’t even one of my friends that were doing it either. It was my own English teacher and it was during a lesson in class. My English teacher was teaching us about a new assignment we were going to be doing soon and it was about pet peeves. So as he was talking about pet peeves and different pet peeves, out of nowhere he scratches the chalk board as an example to show a pet peeve someone could possibly have. Unfortunately it just had to be my pet peeve. As soon as he did it I started to feel all those feelings that I talked about earlier. It was such of an unpleasant feeling especially because I was sitting in class trying to learn. Although my English teacher did not know the scratching of a chalkboard made me very unhappy, I clearly showed it with my emotion that it was very clear I did not like him scratching that chalk board. But of course like everyone else who knows I do not like the scratching of the chalkboard he does it again, for reasons I just do not know.
Some people may not care if someone is scratching the chalk board but I am definitely not one of those people and I am sure I cannot be the only one out there.

Let's Cooperate!

I hate it when we're doing a project and one or 2 of my partners will do nothing. The worst part is that it may be due the next class, or an hour later. Do they even care about the marks/points we'll get for the project? Do they even care that we might get in trouble if we were unable to do finish it? There really are a lot of things that bothers me.

Whenever I see someone slacking off, it irritates me, even if he/she isn't in our group. It irritates me because I know how it feels. If I were to recall the time this happened, it would be last semester in Driver's Ed. Class. We were put into groups of four and only 2 of my group members were doing it (one of those members was me). The other 2 were just waiting, even if I asked them to do something. We were supposed to make a poster about "Maintaining Speed and Gravel Roads" and had to look it up on the book. While my classmate and I work hard, the other 2 were just sitting and slacking off.

I have tried telling them that they can at least do this stuff and just when I thought he/she will, they wouldn't do it. They will drop it and act as if I never  said anything to them. Like come on, why won't they cooperate with us? Do they even know how hard it is to do a project with less cooperation? I'm not trying to be bossy but I also don't want our group to get less marks. I don't really mind if they just sit there and listen, but they can at least give us an opinion or any ideas that they have in mind. Whenever I'm in a group, I always make sure that they will get something to do and help them if they're having trouble with it.

I think that there are reasons why people engage in this behavior and it may be bad or good. Though, I usually think that they just might not care or it's not a big deal to them at all. I'm positive that they're aware about the situation we're in but just chooses not to bother. The only way I can stop them from misbehaving or slacking off is probably by communicating and cooperating with them. Patience wouldn't hurt either, I guess. But please, please, please, cooperate with us!

Talking Loud

It really bugs me when someone talks loud even though their standing right next to you. It kind of makes me mad when their loud pointy voice hits in my ears. It’s like they have no respect or manners against other people. It’s not like I don’t speak loud. I do, but only when I have to, like suppose there’s loud music going on at some party or theirs an emergency like there’s fire in school so it’s obvious I would yell out and say

"Run there's fire in the school!!".

Usually in school hallways people talk loud and I hear it every day. But some time people cross their limits. One time I was standing with my friend Kamaljeet in front of his locker to get his stuff from his locker. One of Kamaljeet's friend name Rajiv comes up to him and said hi to him.

"What’s up bro?" Rajiv says in an extremely super loud voice.

It actually scared me. Everyone in the hallways started looking at us. It was pretty awkward at the moment because it was during the break and there were a lot of people in the hallways. So yeah, Rajiv still didn't lower his voice.

"Yo bro can you speak a little loud I can’t hear you" I said sarcastically.

"Yeah sure!!" Rajiv says it in a super loud voice.

As I control my anger I said "chill out man we're standing right next to you, don’t yell"

Rajiv ignores me and kept his conversation the way it was before. So I went behind him, close to his ear and said

"Can you hear me!!?" in a loud voice

He didn't like what I did.

"Are you crazy?" Rajiv says.

"No, I just wanted to show you how I felt when you were talking this loud." I said as I walked away from him.

The next day he came up me and said sorry. He said this is how I usually talk to everyone. He said no one ever told him that his voice is that loud.

I actually blame his friends and family because they never told him that normally when he talks he talks loud. If they did tell him in the first place he wouldn’t have been as loud as he is now. There are some people that still speak very loudly and their not aware of it. If you could just tell them that they are loud and keep reminding them, eventually someone say they will realize that other people really gets annoyed from their loud voice.

"Hello, I am talking!"

There are two types of people in this world, some who love to talk and other who are just better at listening. I am the type of person who enjoys both. The thing that really ticks me off is people who interrupt me when I am talking in a Conversation.

As I started to get older this pet peeve of mine became more distracting. I would usually just ignore those who interrupted me while I was trying to make a conversation, but apparently I seemed invisible to them so they continued to be disrespectful.

A few months ago I was sitting in my afternoon class with a group of friends sharing my childhood story but right when I was about to tell the main part of the story someone in my group cut me off and began telling their own story. This truly surprised me and made me a bit angry at first. I decided to start the whole story again but Ms. Annoying kept disturbing me to the point where it made me explode.

"Can you not see I am talking to her," I said frustratingly.

"Oh well, I do not care," she said.

This little conversation led to a small fight. So I and Ms. Annoying stopped talking for a while. Its hard to believe that people can be so rude.I believe certain people act this way because maybe they do not feel comfortable or feel ignored. This has happened to me a number of times; in fact I believe this might have happened to all of us at one point in our life.

Nobody likes people who disturb them at any point. Disturbance is a very irritating thing. People need to understand that when someone is talking, you should never interfere unless it is something urgent or important.

A few days ago, I was talking to my friend in the hallway when suddenly a stranger came along and just took my friend away in seconds. I had to tell her something really important but the other person did not seem to care.  To me this is one of the most annoying things anyone can do. We need to understand that the way we behave and react to situations does not only effect us but also the people around us.

I would just like to say individuals should never Interfere or disturb someone when you know they are busy because it can lead to a very negative situation. So watch what you say and do because it effects everyone around you.

Beep beep! Get out of the way!

Maples has a lot of students and everybody is on the move to get to their classes. However, I've noticed that people have a tendency to form packs in the link hallway leading to the Seaford building. What's peculiar is that they are always the same people causing a traffic jam. Not is it only annoying, but it causes fellow students' patience to run out.

My classes in the previous semester were in the Seaford building, except for my morning pre-cal class in the Maples side. During even school days, I would have pre-cal as my first class and followed by history in the opposite building. If it was spring, I would have walked outside instead to get to my classes, but it's not practical to do so when temperatures dipped to -20oC. In that one particular day, I was in a rush to arrive to the Seaford side because I had a history test to write. The link, as expected, was full of students travelling in between buildings and I did my best to dodge the crowd. Upon arriving near the Maples gym, there was a sudden delay in the traffic. The flow suddenly became slower, as if there was an obstacle smack dab in the middle of the hallway. Struggling to make my way, I groaned at the obstacle: a herd of grade nine girls giggling excitedly.
I wanted to get to class early for the test, so I spoke as loudly as I could over the din: "Excuse me!"

The underclassmen didn't budge.
I tried again, louder this time. "Excuse me, can you guys please not block the halls? There's people trying to get through."
The grade nine girls budged an inch and resumed their giggling, which didn't help the flow of the traffic at all.

Chatting with your buddies in the halls is okay as long as you are out of the way, however I find that the usually busy link hall isn't a practical place to have mobs stand and talk while fellow students struggle to get through. If people are aware that it is bothersome to others, they would have the courtesy to move aside to an adjacent space, where they will be able to allow fellow students to pass by with no problems. Getting run over by irritated students isn't a pretty sight, so step aside, get out of the way and talk somewhere else. This will make it easier for everyone.

Take Off That Mask

I met this girl who was in love with make up, and when the teacher asked her what would be the one thing you would take if you were to die tomorrow. She smiled and said "MAKE UP".Something that really bugs me is when people wear too much make up, especially girls. I don't like how they wear bright eye shadow, fake lashes, too much eye liner and sometimes they match their make up with their clothes. They wear make up just because they see models and celebrities wear it so they also do it because they think its fashionable. Well, to be honest with you i think it looks like a mask when you wear too much make up. What happened to natural beauty, or natural make up that looks simple? Why do you want to look fake with make up when you can look real and try being less like models. This week I was shopping for make up at Shoppers Drug Mart, I was looking at the eye shadow section for light colors and all i could find was bright colors. I asked the cosmetic lady but she looked weird, she had pink eye shadow with dark smokey eye liner it was kind of hard to look at her in the eye because the make up was distracting. One day me and my mom were grocery shopping and I was pushing the shopping cart through the make up section. This girl was standing there trying all sorts of make up when she already had so much on. I kindly said "Excuse me!"But she was too busy trying on make up. she didn't bother moving so i went up to her and said "i like your make up". She said "Oh, thank you", I looked at her and said "it doesn't suite you and it makes you look scary". I left and when i looked back after a while she was wiping the make up off her face.
I don't know why they think that wearing allot of make up is a good thing. Sometimes girls wear it because they want to look pretty but they end up looking weird. Some girls wear it because they think its nice and it will attract boys attention and people would look at them but really it just looks like your hiding your true self. I wear make up but simple and never too much. Sometimes I love natural beauty because if you feel good about yourself and your face than don't wear too much make up because it changes your face. I also give that advice to all y friends but one of them never listens because she thinks it looks unique and different. The truth is some make up can hurt your your skin, some eye liner can damage your eyes, some some mascara can ruin your eye lashes so next time think smart and wear less make up because it irritates allot of people, and could harm your own personal health.

"Everything Sucks."

You know what really grinds my gears? Pessimists. Obviously there aren't people who are constantly/100% negative, but people whose general mindset is, “The glass is half empty." Now, don't get me wrong, my life isn't full of happiness, but i always look for the silver lining in everything. The worst pessimists in my opinion are those who are critical about entertainment (i.e. movies, games, and music). As in, they can barely enjoy anything because they're always looking for the flaws in it.

First of all, movie critics. Let's take a look at people who can't enjoy or have a hard time enjoying a movie. It really bothers me when someone attempts to pick apart a generally good movie. Now, their thoughts may be opinionated, but when their points become invalid, that's when I start to get irritated. For example, if someone said that Transformers: Dark of the Moon was too long, I agree and respect their opinion. But if they said something like, "There should've been more jokes and comedy," then that's just silly because Transformers is an action movie/series. I think I get my attitude towards movies from my dad. We were having a conversation about this sort of thing a few months ago and he was saying how he always tries to like a movie. Even if it isn't amazing, he looks for the good in it and I realized that that's how i look at movies too.

On to video games, the things I play way too much. I think pessimism in the gaming community is very similar to film criticism. Although, I do think it's harder to like every video game, since the genre and intended audience varies so much more than movies. For example, I find it easy to like action, thriller, and comedy movies, but hard to like shooters, strategy games, and open world/sandbox games. I'm so fixated on those three gaming genres that it's harder to like more, but with movies, I would still watch horror or crime movies. That's why I feel that pessimism is stronger in the gaming community. Someone could play a game that isn't their 'cup of tea', but still give bad criticism about it because they assume it was meant for them.

Music genres are the final thing I hate to see pessimism in. I feel that when people get attached to a certain genre of music, they start to think that everything else sucks. Someone likes rock, they think classical sucks. Someone likes classical, they think rap sucks. Someone likes rap, they think pop sucks. Someone likes pop, they think rock sucks.  I think that everyone just needs to respect every type of music genre and just listen to what they enjoy. Maybe even give another music genre a listen. For me, personally, I very much dislike country, but if someone told me they liked it, I'd probably just keep my mouth shut.

So, one of my biggest pet peeves is pessimists and I just addressed a certain group of them. I'm not sure if people like that were just raised that way, but in the end, I think they just need to lighten up.

DON'T SMOKE !!!!

I will talk about 3 situations about people who smoke around other people that really bug me. First I will talk about how people smoke around the bus stop, second I will talk about how people smoke around people who jog and the last thing I will talk about is how they smoke around entrances, parties and anywhere in public
One thing about smokers that bothers me is when they smoke around the bus stops. This bothers me because, well first I don't like the smell, second when I smell it, it's like I’m smoking too(Second hand smoking) and my lungs hurt every time I breathe in smoke. There was this one time during summer last year, I was at the bus stop near Polo Park and this guy was smoking around me. He was just smoking there like he was alone. I didn't approach him because he was an adult and I was just a kid, so I just moved away as far as possible. He was probably smoking around the bus stop because of his addiction or some other reason. I don't really know if the other people were bothered by it. This could be stopped if people were to talk to him

Second thing about smokers that bothers me is when they smoke around people that jog. This bothers me because joggers need clean air, if they breathe in bad air then it could affect their running specially when they are really tired and joggers are breathing really hard. Joggers don't want to take in bad air. I remember when I was running a route near the school and I encountered at least 2 smokers, it did affect my breathing, I had to hold my breath for a bit because I didn't want to smell it and if I did then it would of hurt my lungs. I didn't bother saying anything because I was jogging and I got away from the smoker pretty quickly.

The third thing about smokers that bothers me is when they smoke around entrances. This really bugs me because many people go by entrances, what if a family with a baby or a toddler passes by? Last time I encountered this was at a Christmas party with family friends. We were at tyndall community centre and when me and my family  arrived I see some of the adults smoking in the entrance, as soon as I saw this I took a deep breath far enough for me not to smell the smoke and walked by them really fast. As soon I was in the Tyndall I never went back outside because of the smokers. People probably do this because of their addictions or maybe they like it because it relaxes them. People can stop this by the adults moving or by putting a "no smoking" signs in the entrance.
Smokers can really be a bother when they are polluting the clean air. Smokers could cause bad health to other people especially to toddlers and babies. Point is if you want to smoke, which you really shouldn't do, smoke somewhere it does not bug people.

Stop Talking Behind People's Backs

You know what bugs me? People that talk about me behind my back. It bugs me because people makes me look like a bad person in front of everyone. People have talked about me behind my back and I was really shocked when I found out it was one of my good friends. he was telling every one that  i was telling him stuff about other people were coming to me and asking why am I talking about them behind their back. I asked them who told you this when they told me that it was that it was him i did not believe them because I really trusted my friend and I never thought  he would do that but he did. I asked him but he said he did not say anything and i believed him. Two days later I heard him when he was telling someone something. After that day I never talked to him. I learned a something from that incident that never trust anyone. even your best friend can betray you. after that If I found out that someone is talking about me behind my back i just go up to them and tell them stop if they don't stop then I make the stop. I have done that once. I said that to my brother s friend because he was talking about my brother behind his back. I just went up to him and told him to stop and if you want to say something say it his face and if i found out that you are still doing it then you better watch out! I think he got scared because after that day he didn't do it. why do people do this?
I think people do this because they are jealous or they don't like that person and they do it to make them look bad and they know that other people don't like it but they still do it. people should just mind there own business and keep there thoughts to them self.

Inhale. Exhale... Or not.

As a young girl who does her best to steer clear of things that can do her body harm, such as drugs, alcohol, smoking, and various other things that I hope to never find out about, I have a very clean track record. Furthermore, I am a very healthy person (if one does not include the intense amounts of junk food I am capable of consuming in small amounts of time), but that is irrelevant.

I would like it to be known that I have never done drugs. I have never had alcohol. And I have never smoked.

With that said, when people smoke anywhere close enough for me to breathe in their revolting fumes, I tend to get very, very, very annoyed… and rather nauseous. The scent of cigarettes makes me sick very easily, and its overall smell is something I find disgusting. Like I said, I try to stay away from everything that is bad for my body, which leaves me very conscious whenever I see someone pull out a cigarette.

I remember this one time during the summer of 2011; I had gone out with my family to Birdshill. Despite the wind that decided to blow at the most random of times, it was a really nice day. A little too hot for me, but it was still a really nice day regardless.

After we set up our picnic table, I went with my 7 year old niece to go buy some ice cream. As we waited in line, I saw a man walk up and stand in line behind us with who I assumed was his wife. After being intimidated by his height, my eyes immediately locked onto the lit cigarette between his middle and index finger.

I turned away because I felt rude for staring, and looked at the line in front of us. My niece and I were closer to the end, and it looked like it would be a while before we finally got to the front.

As we waited, the man continued to smoke. I could tell because the scent of his cigarette had gotten stronger, and stronger—almost to the point where I decided to just leave. But, not being able to say no to my niece, I stayed. I tried to give the man hints to stop smoking. I gave a few coughs, and a few gestures that looked as if I had trouble breathing. Unfortunately, my hints came off as awkward, and he did not stop.

I don't mind if people smoke. I mean, it is their choice to smoke, and I won't judge them, even if I don't support their decision. But that doesn't mean it is my choice to smoke as well, even if I'm not directly smoking. The same goes for my niece, who was only 7 years old at the time. I am not entirely sure, but her mother once said she had asthma a few years back. And even though I don't know much about asthma, I assumed cigarette fumes were bad for her. Whether or not she did have asthma, I'm pretty sure it would still be bad for her. The moment I decided to get out of line with her was when she started to cough alarmingly hard 20 minutes later.

In the end, my niece never got her ice cream, but just like me, she had felt really, really sick. Even though her coughing was nothing serious, it bothers me that people are so open about their smoking. Especially around children. Though the thought annoyed me, I found it ironic as well. The reason my family had gone out that day was because I had stayed in all summer, and my mom thought it would be a good Idea that I get some, "fresh air."

Insert cheesy audience laughter here, if you will.

Brush Your Teeth Bud, It's Not Hard

It really makes me angry when people don't brush their teeth. It's not hard. It takes 5 mins in the morning not even or at least bring gum with you please. If I'm sitting beside you in class and you didn't brush your teeth don't go breathing all over me like a dog. If you didn't brush your teeth bring a toothbrush to school or something. I was in class one day and this kid didn't brush his teeth he was talking to me and i couldn't take the smell i didn't wanna be mean and say "Your breathe stinks get out of here go brush your teeth"i had to ask to go to the washroom just to get away from him for a few minutes. Some of my friends say they hate it too when people don't brush. Just do us all a favor and brush please like common. People are aware that they didn't brush their teeth but they continue to breathe all over you. The world would be an alot better place if people brushed their teeth, noone would get pissed off about other people's breathe. Don't go anywhere if your not going to brush your teeth your just going to embarrass yourself and others around you.

If you’re smoking think….

Two years ago lots of people that I know would never touch a cigarette, they would say it was nasty and gross, but all of a sudden one person starts smoking, gets their friends into it and that’s it, it’s a smoking party outside.

There’s two things that bother me the most about smokers, first is that the ones who have been smoking for a while get there friends into it, even though they know how hard it is to quit. How is that even a good friend? You’re basically giving them poison. If you already know how addicting and bad it is for you, why make your friend suffer through the addiction too. The second thing that bothers me is that lots of the smokers are hypocrites, they talk bad about the ones who do smoke and next thing you know they’re the ones smoking too.

One day a friend of mine asked me to go out with her to have a smoke. I went, but just to stand and keep her company while she was smoking. She knows how much I’m against smoking, but she didn’t care. She blew the gross smelling smoke out of her mouth right into my face. I was disgusted. “Ew what are you doing? That’s nasty” I said while I was on my way to leave. She just laughed it off and continued with her smoke.

You can’t make the smokers stop smoking; it’s their decision to make. Yeah smoking may be a stress relief , or it makes you calmer when you’re freaking out. But really there are other things in the world that you can do to relief the stress. Smokers really just need to pay attention to their surroundings. What if you’re smoking beside a person who has asthma or maybe someone who is allergic to the smoke? So just go smoke do whatever but pay attention to your surroundings please.

Chewing Gum.

Don't you just hate it when someone asks for gum and then suddenly a friend of them come up to you if they could have more. Really... really?

Sunday morning me and my family went to church. A random but familiar guy came up to me. "do you have a gum?" he ask. I said yeah sure why not. Well I always have extra in my pocket so i gave it to him he didnt even say thank you. After a few minutes a friend of him ask for more. Wow I didnt see that coming lol. but seriously you want more? I said. You know what he just smiled at me like he didnt hear anything. Out of no where my cousin tap me and told me that we cant chew gum at church. uh oh now i just felt bad for giving away gum to people. Sorry i forgot :(

After the mass my parents went to buy some groceries. I asked them if they could buy me some foods and gum. they did get me a gum. It's too much though. Well i have lots of friends maybe they want some. So when I went to school I took some to share it with my homies. During spares me and my friends usually hang out at the cafeteria. A bunch of guys caught my attention. It looks like they're coming towards us. Man they look scary. Feels like they're going to eat us all. I didnt know that one of them was the random guy at the church. That's why he looks familiar he goes to my school too. What a coincidence. Weird right!? Anyways they just want to ask for gum. Are you serious this guy AGAIN? "I give the talk." I said "I am not a greedy person but i cant share my gum to you. why do you always ask me for gum cant you just buy your own?"I'm not mean im just saying. of course i have the right to say no. Sharing things is not a problem with me as long as you know your limits.

"You should ask first.."

It was 8:55 in the morning when I woke up. I took a shower, brushed my teeth, blow dryed my hair, got ready for school & arrived at school at 9:15. I knew I was going to be late so I brought my breakfast to school. It was those times when you're really starving & you want to eat but your teacher won't let you because of the mess you will me making in his class. The bell rang & it's my 2nd class. Finally, I get to eat my food now. I opened my bag, got my cookies but someone's poking me & I looked back, "Can I have one because I'm really hungry, I didn't get to eat my breakfast this morning." "Yeah sure," I replied back with a smile on my face. I took a bite in my first cookies but then there's this friend who don't ask first & just grabs my food from my hand and she was like "Hm, did you make this? Thank you, it's so good!", then she left. Yeah, I appreciate how you just took my cookie without even asking, next time take all of it. I was so pissed. I didn't get to finish it so I gave all the rest to my classmate, the one who was hungry.

It was lunch time, I brought pizza pops then I saw my friend who took my cookie. As I observed her, I can tell her habit is to take someone else's food. She will walk around to get everyone's food. As she gets to my table,"Do you have food?" she asks with an annoying voice. "You should ask first before you take them, okay?" I said to her angrily. "I just did, didn't I?" she said with an evil eye. I got so pissed that I throw it to her.

I don't get why people just take your food without even asking. You can ask nicely but you can't just take it from someone else's hand or just grabs it without even knowing the person you just took it, because that's just rude. So for the people who do that, get your own food or stop taking someone else's food without asking.

The Blockades

Being inconsiderate is what blocking places you aren't supposed to be blocking is. I'm sure there are other places you can go lounge upon other than the stairs or hallways which is in direct contact to an overflow of students in transit. It just brings up the question "Why?". Can they not see that people are already having a hard time getting through without them adding to the squished population? The hallway's width could only take so much people.

As usual, I'm on my way to my next class, walking, walking, and as I reach the stairs, there they are. They are occupying half of the thing's length and people have access to only one side of the rails. What is even more infuriating is that they don't even bother to make some space for passing people. I mean, I don't have a problem with it if there was no one there like the lunch hour for example. Because of the increasing number of the Maple's community, like a wildlife savannah, land is becoming scarce in which people can spend time. So the only other option are the stairs and hallways which is perfectly okay since not much people go through there at that time.

Who wouldn't want to tell them to move to another place? At least until the transitional minutes are over. Sadly though, that is not the case. We're all trying to avoid that type of confrontation where you could proably get involved in an even messier argument. So in honor of that and permanent records, we stay out of it.

I'd like to know what goes on in their minds, and I'd like to particularly toggle the part in their brain where they register their surroundings and the people scurrying about them. I really cannot fathom why, but I'd like to, of course. If only mind control was an option. Or at least let them read eye contact. But no, eye contact is scary business.

It is something I'd like to learn, the art of perceiving people's behaviour. I'd also like to know what makes them think that way. I think one factor though might be ignorance. Do they choose to ignore what goes on? Or are they just really blindly going about in their daily routines? I will never be sure.

I'm quite certain that you can never remove this kind of things at school unless there was a special enforcement from the Canadian government... but that will probably be ignored anyway too. And frankly to say, confronting those people head on is quite scary for me.

People can only hope that these blockades would go down sometime. It's not necessary to be rude when telling them, but eventually someone will have to. I'm just glad they don't clap when you walk by. That's a different, more complaint-worthy, issue altogether.

Being rude.

Being rude, there is a fine line between being truthful. And being downright rude, this essay will talk about people who go out of their way to be rude. On multiple occasions have i seen people, herd them. And it's also happened to me. No names will be said, but they have felt the need to be a complete ass about it (in a lack of a better term). It's not called for it never is, yet they seem to get personal enjoyment off it, maybe it makes them feel more dominate. And it doesn't help when their friends encourage them by laughing. Being rude doesn't make you more of a man. Or ever better than you there always seems to be a kid in school that gets talked about, wait let me take a step back. There is always clichés in school, and every cliché talk’s smack about the other ones and basically anyone there there not friends with gets the blunt end of the stuck. And that's not right, why do people feel the need to be rude? That question will always go un- answered, there will always be a reason, but there shouldn't be. I don't really they understand how it can affect people, words are a powerful thing, a black eye will go away in a week, a sentence can burn itself in your head for a life time. I’ve never addressed someone face to face that has been rude to someone or even me, you don't want to give them the satisfaction that it bothered you, best thing to do is ignore it, Sometimes you have to say something though, I personally have a huge amount of respect for someone who stands up for someone. It takes a lot to break someone down. But even more to bring them back up. I think as people get older, their ways will change and they will learn that it's wrong to be that way. And that a lot more people frown upon them then they make out to be.

Just Speak English!! Please...

WARNING: This Article may offend you, so please read with caution or do not read at all.

My friend and I were walking in the hallway to get to our next class, and we were conversing about something or at least trying to, but there were so many languages being spoken and it kept getting louder and louder that we forgot what language we spoke!  It bugs me when students speak a different language at school because it’s disrespectful.  They could be saying something about me without me even knowing.  Also, they tend to get really loud when they talk which annoys me because it is as loud as it is at break time.

There are students who even speak different language languages in class while the teacher is talking which is extremely rude.  They tend to gather in groups and speak their first language, which is not English.  I understand if you don’t feel comfortable speaking English when you are with your friends because you aren’t that great at it.  It’s one thing to have a conversation with someone, but getting a whole group of 30 kids to meet at the cafeteria every lunch it just gets overwhelming for others around you who can only speak English.

I am a pretty understanding person and I actually speak a second language so I understand when you want to get a sentence out really quickly so you say it in the language you feel comfortable speaking, but there are boundaries.  What I mean by boundaries is, knowing when and where it is appropriate to speak a different language while living in Canada, especially when you are at school or work.  Other people around you who don’t understand or speak your language may get offended because, really you could be saying anything about them and they wouldn’t have a clue, so things can easily be assumed and create problems.

I am not a racist person.  I know I may seem like one but I’m not.  I am just seeing this from a person who was born in Canada and raised in the Canadian culture.  I of course also learned about the Portuguese culture, catholic religion, and the language because I am full Portuguese and even though I wasn’t born there, my parents were along with the rest of my family.  My point is, even though my family speaks a different language at home and was raised in a different country, I still follow the Canadian way and expectations.

It’s a fact that I am not the only person in my school who feels this way.  It is definitely a frustrating factor and tends to make people angry or annoyed.  There are also a lot more immigrants who have moved to Winnipeg and settled in the Maples.  The numbers are increasing which means the groups of people attending the school speaking anything BUT English is going to get bigger and louder!  I have never confronted any of these people because it’s not my place to do that, but I have unfortunately seen other people get pretty angry and yell at them telling them to speak English, which is definitely not the way to handle the situation but it has happened.  Since the number have been and will continue to increase, there should be something done so that everyone has their peace.  I think it should be a rule to have to speak English at all times while in the building and we should build a commons area so that it gives more room for people to go so that there aren’t huge groups of people everywhere crowding the space.  It isn’t a huge issue at the moment but I do believe it’s one of those things that gets over-looked then it becomes bigger when least expected.

This is gym class, not the summer olympics.

I enjoy a little competition every now and then as much as the next person does, but why do some people feel the need to take competition to a whole new level? I understand that sometimes during sports you may want to show off your talents to your friends, but when you're in gym class trying your hardest against people who don't even want to be there, you just end up embarrassing yourself.

About a month ago in gym class, I remember when there were grade 12's and 10's all playing basketball. There were a couple of grade 12 boys who must have thought they were in the NBA or something and were probably trying their hardest against some grade 10 girls that were just standing around. I'm not sure what these guys felt they were accomplishing, but it had to have been something great with the amount of sweat they were putting into their games.

I can also recall about 6 months ago, I was at the Wellness Center working out when another incident happened where somebody showed their extreme competitive nature. After I had finished my initial workout, I decided to run on the treadmill to cool down. The person beside me apparently saw me as a threat to their manhood and decided that no matter what, they wouldn't be out done by me. At first, I didn't really notice but after a while I noticed that whenever I would raise the speed on my treadmill, they would look over and then raise theirs to a speed even higher than mine. I had never seen this person in my life and I was confused as to why they felt the need to do this. To make sure I knew exactly they were doing, I continued to raise the speed on my treadmill until we were both on a full out sprint. Thinking back, this must have been a ridiculous sight to see a 16 year old and someone who seemed to be in their mid-twenties basically racing each other on treadmills, but I didn't care at the time, because I wanted to make this guy look bad. Nothing was verbally said, but we both knew that it just became a contest to see who could last longer, but little did I know, this guy had used his alpha-male attitude to bring out the competitive side in me. Luckily for me, this guy had just played into my biggest strength, my advanced cardio. After about three minutes of straight sprinting, this guy had finally caved in and stopped sprinting. I thought I would feel great for beating this guy at his own game, but I instead had quite the opposite feeling. In the end I felt like a loser for allowing myself to get sucked into this guy's little competition. This left me wondering why he even felt the need to try and out do me in the first place.

I decided I would ask the guy at the Wellness what made him even want to try and beat me in a non-existent contest in the first place, but he was nowhere to be found.

I guess some people just need to constantly be reminded that they, at any time in any given location, are the best person there even if this is not true. They may be aware that it bothers other people, but just don't care because they're the best and no one can stand up to them.

I'd say that you are either born with this super competitive nature or you aren't. I'd say to stop being competitive, you just have to accept that nobody really cares if you're better than them at something so insignificant in life such as a high school gym class or a teenager running on a treadmill beside you.

Favors gone wild.

What really pushes my buttons, and grinds my gears is when people only talk to me when they need something. Whether it would be asking me a favor to borrow something, or to receive information that I know.

I'm sure everyone has experienced this situation at least once in their lives, but I always seem to encounter this situation. It's becoming an annoying problem. "Can I borrow a pencil?" simple favors like that are fine, but when a person asks multiple favors constantly is way too much for me to handle. A friend of mine constantly throws questions at me about my other friend. "Do you know where she is?", "What is she doing?", "What class does she have?", "Why isn't she replying to me?” I don't think the person realizes how annoying it is. I ask myself the same questions every day, "can the person ask someone else for once?" or, "can he just go and ask the person instead of me?" I'm not Albert Einstein! I don't know everything, nor can I read people's minds. Most of the time, I'm okay with favors, but when the person starts to always come to me and it becomes a routine I start to slowly get angry and annoyed.

I have never addressed the person directly, but I have always wanted to say something to the person who always comes to me. I have not ever said anything because I find it would be very harsh, and the person would take it the wrong way. I guess I'm too shy of a person to stand up and mention something to the person.

The main reasons why people only talk to someone when they need something are so that they won't encounter the situation themselves. "Oh, she can ask for me so nothing weird and awkward happens." The person can also be oblivious to what is going on, and have no idea what they're doing. They might also only behave like this to seek attention from others. People sometimes don't realize that this bothers others because they might be only thinking of themselves. They might not think before they ask for a favor, to borrow something, or to know something.

Some reasons why people act like this can be a simple factor like being lazy, or it can be a big factor such as the person being self-centered, only thinking of themselves. You can't prevent everyday situations from happening, but you can think ahead. The next time you go to someone when you need something, think of if you can deal with the situation yourself. Am I being a bother to the person? Or am I being lazy and can do this myself? This may not be the biggest deal to some people, but to me I can put this in my top five pet peeves.
