Now, I'm not going to go in great detail over behind-the-wheel drug abuse only because of how many other times its been discussed over the internet. But Texting, talking on your cellphone and/or listening to loud music can serve just as harmful.. well, sort of. Think of it like this. Someone is Texting on their cellphone and is in a rush. on the left turn lane there's another person listening to music so loud that the driver might as well be incoherent to sound, also the driver is Texting. Now let's say Guy#1 Texting had gone ahead but soon after realized it wasn't his turn to accelerate forward. meanwhile Guy#2 Oblivious to the situation, he had also begun accelerating because last the driver checked it was his turn. Going back to Guy#1 gets stuck in a random out of the blue pothole. Guy#1 honks for his dear safety. Yet in turn, doesn't get any recognition of the other drivers awareness due to the blazing music and the Texting. Next thing you know Injuries occur, car expenses pop up, or even worse, Death (although unlikely at low speeds). Now if both of them had been more aware. they would have avoided the crash in at least 3 different ways on the top of my head right now. Car#1 wouldn't have gone off and accelerated at all if he had already noticed it wasn't his turn to drive forward. Car#1 yet again could have also avoided the pothole and dodged around it if he was wary. Car#2 would have stopped way before impact.
as a disclaimer though. what you're reading is nothing of any professional advice (although it would be cool to think so.) It's just my personal opinion. also, my brain can act a bit pessimistic as so to see the worst in a harmful situation. If I lack any creativity or clearness in my main points, It's probably because I feel little to no creativity right now, but I'll manage and do my best. Does this irk you that I relay this from my head? whoops. Also, don't feel like this is directed to any of you reading this, I just like to type things out as if I were to talk out against someone committing to my irking pains. Feel free to enjoy, don't be afraid to comment and let me know if I need improvement on anything, feedback helps out.
I also very much find it disrespectful when someone is for example. Walking across the street when a driver nearly pumps into said person walking, said person walking proceeds to advise the driver to discontinuing said driver's texting, listening to loud music or talking on their cellphone, whatever the cause of distraction may have been. Driver gets upset and replys with a few rude remarks. Like as if the driver thought he/she was doing more good over the bad. I mean, appreciate the fact that the person walking didn't blow up on the driver and started swearing like a mad scientist. The person walking could have easily and well have been ten times more angry, but no, the person decided to give a friendly advice and gets a rude remark back from the driver who nearly HIT said walker. Irking, isn't it? well, It irks me and thats the purpose of this post. Remember? Right.
Texting, listening to loud music or talking on the cellphone actually does show a remarkably high difference in the way a driver performs his/her task. I've experienced a small degree of this at first hand when someone I knew was driving and decided to text that certain person's friend. Far from anything dangerous because it was only a single text or two. But I'll continue to make my point. You can just tell that there's a sudden difference in the driving patterns, slowing down, slightly turning direction and so on. It takes them longer to text because of those few short seconds it takes to submit that new text key letter. it distracts totally from the driver purely concentrating on driving as a priority.
Ways to prevent are simple and straight forward. Stop to the side of the road while texting, listen to music more softly. Use an earpiece or some form of audio output to listen to the person talking to you over the cellphone.
I mean, it's all pretty easy. yet textboard-warriors arise from their seats and abruptly say, " but It's for convenience sake! " Well, no.
It's more convenient for the driver to pull over and make the text really fast rather than taking those three second interval's per letter and risk contact in a crash. listening to music softly will also benefit by keeping you from going deaf too soon. Talking with an earpiece keeps both hands on the wheel like ALL drivers are instructed to do ALWAYS.
