The Wasteful Way

We all are so lucky for all the possessions we have. But when people choose to waste the things they have it really bothers me and many others feel very strongly about this to. Wasting things like food for example, is a straight “middle finger” to the less fortunate in my opinion. Also this shows all the things we take for granted and this has become a major problem in today's world. Wasting things is a real problem especially when there are people in the world dyeing to have what we got. It is frustrating seeing something that could have been reused or saved being thrown out or wasted.

One time I was at a fast food restaurant and this lady ordered a huge meal. Only to witness her eat one French fry and minutes later throw out everything she had ordered and walk out like it was nothing. She defiantly was not thinking about all the people in the world that are starving. This was not the only time I have seen someone being wasteful, at school many times when I have walked into a washroom, I have observed the faucet running full blast with no on in site operating it. People in other countries would do anything for a running water source.

I have tried addressing this issue many times but only with friends and family. Most times I just try to remind them and they usually have that “eye opener" moment. I have never tried to inform strangers of this problem but, if I did they would not be happy with some random person nagging at them. There is no way to address this problem at large, it all depends on people's mind sets and prospective.

People act this way because they are taken what they have now for granted. Most people don’t even realize they are being wasteful and this really bothers me the most. I am sure other people feel the same way. Another reason for such a behavior is the way we are brought up in this society we always have to have the biggest and the best things, otherwise they are obsolete and need to be thrown away.

Some factors that might foster behavior like this is being brought up in a world where we have everything and anything we could ever want. If these people got to see the unfortunate up close and personal I am sure their views would dramatically change for the better and maybe they would try to become more conservative with their possessions and the resources that are very available to us.

  1. I have seen many people who has taken things for granted like you did. I really bothers me how wasteful some people can be. But the main factor we need to look at here is "Money"; the economic value of a certain area or country. Many are rich and many are poor and in povert. This is a fact. People who has the "the money" can do whatever they want. They become spoiled this way. They put less value on the things others; who are in poverty, find most valuable, like food for instance.

How can one person solve such a thing? We need all the hands we can get; no, we need everyone's help to solve this problem. Greed; our desire of being selfish gets in our way. Everyone wants to have something to brag on hand; whether it's their look or their possession. Everyone wants to feel good about themselves. No one likes to suffer... Yet people suffer every day, every second... Why is that. Will we find equality? And if we do find equality what will we do to a world if everyone is happy. No conflict is the world makes it boring. The balance of nature is... Someone gains while others lose. We need to love before we hate or hate before we love. These are the things that make life interesting. In my opinion anyways...

  2. I think they should also look how hard they work to make money to live this kind of life and how easy it is to throw something out in the garbage. Good job Scott, you addressed a really big issue of people's life.

  3. strongly agree with this issue, although I must admit that I sometimes catch myself forgetting about how lucky I am to be able to own things that other people may not have a chance to have in different parts of the world. I guess it's a matter of knowing what you have and realizing how privileged we are. Also, others that are able to help provide people with the basic necessities should try harder to do so, as opposed to buying things they don't need.

  4. I agree about the fact that people take many things for granted in this day and age. But why do people say "finish your food, think about the kids in africa"? Me eating my food is in no way going to help anyone elsewhere in the world. On the other hand, instead of wasting that money on things that will be thrown out why not do something with it like donate it.
